Overview

alive.house was a Web3 metaverse platform built around interactive music experiences. Artists could launch their music experiences inside a shared 3D environment, while audiences could join the world, explore the space, interact with other users, dance using emotes, and collect NFTs associated with the experience.

Problem

Creating an engaging Web3 music experience required bringing together technologies that typically operate independently. The application needed to combine a React-based web experience with a Unity-powered 3D environment and blockchain functionality while keeping the experience seamless for users.

Solution

Built and integrated the React frontend with a Unity-based 3D environment using React Unity WebGL. Contributed to blockchain and NFT functionality, including marketplace integration with OpenSea, while building supporting frontend experiences and an administration panel with Next.js and TypeScript.

My role

Frontend Developer responsible for building React and TypeScript experiences, integrating the Unity 3D environment with the web application, and contributing to blockchain and NFT functionality. Also worked on the Next.js administration panel and focused on maintaining a smooth experience across the React and Unity environments.

Key engineering decisions

• Integrated Unity directly into the React application using React Unity WebGL to create a seamless transition between the web interface and the 3D environment.
• Kept the web application and Unity experience coordinated so users could interact with the 3D world without feeling like they were switching between separate applications.
• Focused on frontend performance while combining a client-heavy React application with a resource-intensive Unity environment.
• Integrated NFT and blockchain functionality into the user experience rather than treating Web3 as a separate part of the application.
